Puppy - 7 months old Housebroken Crate trained Super smart Gentle Donny is a typical lab in the smart, sweet and affectionate departments but he's got some interesting "somethings" that make him extra special. First, the beard, which makes him look either like a beatnik or an old man. But Donny is just a 7-month old pup. Mama's dance card could have included a schnauzer, an airedale, a German wirehaired pointer, or a generic terrier mix. Donny's sister is all-smooth, so the wire coat is probably coming from his daddy's side. These have all been offered as guesses, so take your pick. He has a bit of heeler/aussie ticking on ... (Read More)his chest. The wirehair in him helps with shedding. He's not leaving traces of himself in the house. More specialness ... For a lab puppy he's extremely calm. I would trust him around children and the elderly. In fact, he seems to have the temperament to be a therapy dog, and he'll be making nursing home visits with me, his foster mom. He's not a jumper, so I'd trust him around younger children. He's very submissive, so very unlikely to argue over his possessions. He's a neat eater; no flinging food around the kitchen. Although he's not overly vocal he will tell you when someone's approaching your home. Because he was neutered so young, I call him 'Donny-who-pees-like-Marie' No leg-hiking. No marking in my house. He likes car rides and sunshine, hugs and kisses. He'll roll on his back for cuddle time. Moki (Native American for 'deer') is a lean 8 pound Chihuahua mix with long legs that dance happily when you come home to him. He is around a year old so he's out of the chewy puppy phase but still has lots of fun energy. His foster mom has a doggy door and he has almost mastered his potty manners. I've never met a dog I didn't like, and they like me right away, too. Dogs that usually don't like other dogs, like me. I would be a great companion to a dog who's grieving the loss of a pack member. I have that "special something," the rescue people say. I'm very submissive and have never uttered a growl. I'm also kind of quiet, not a barker. I think cats are interesting but they don't want to play as much as I do. I started out as a very shy pup who wouldn't go near people, but I've joined a writer's group, and I've participated in several game nights at my foster home. At first, I didn't hang out with the big group of people, but then someone produced CHEESE! So I started liking the cheese people. I hung out mainly at the Spades and Chickenfoot tables, 'cause those folks seemed calmer, but I found out that people who play a card game called Spoons fling a lot of food off of their plates when they toss their bodies across the table when someone gets four of a kind. So that's my favorite table for the moment. I'm still timid and shy when I meet new people. I won't jump on you or your friends. I have great manners and just need some time to get used to new situations. I am extremely smart and learn new things easily, especially when there's a hot dog or cheese involved. I learned 3 commands in 5 minutes (sit/down/shake) the first day at my foster home. I do all my business outside. I go to the back door when I need to potty. And I go into my crate when foster mom gives the command. Sometimes she just gives a hand signal, and other times she says a word, so I don't think it's presumptuous for me to declare myself bilingual. I recently starting visiting a nursing home. I let everyone touch me, and I even sat on the sofa next to one of the residents. Everyone said I was so sweet and calm.
